Fair Isle handwarmers

£5.00

machine-knit pattern pdf download (english)

This knitting pattern is included as part of the Fair Isle Academy, if you are or will subscribe to the online course, don't buy this pattern here, it will be available there.

Like many knitters, if there is one thing I really dislike knitting, it’s swatches!

I’m experienced enough to know how important they are, but I still don’t enjoy knitting them. That was until I figured out a way to use the swatch to make handwarmers! Since then I actually look forward to swatching! When it comes to Fair Isle knitting I always knit with the same wool, so the swatch isn’t for the tension, but purely for the colour combination. Even though I make a mock-up on the computer, I am often surprised by the result once knitted.

Here is how I’m swatching and how to sew your swatch to transform it into an easy handwarmer!

Obviously, as this is a way for you to test your tension, you will probably not get the exact same result as I do, but you will be able to use it as a guide for future projects.

Yarn : Jamieson’s of Shetland, Spindrift (2ply equivalent to 4ply/fingering weight; 100% Shetland wool; 105m/115 yds per 25g ball)

Gauge : @ tension 10 in Fair Isle / Hand washed and steamed flat:

30 sts and 30 rows to 4 inches / 10cm

Size 1 (Size 2):Length: 9 (9) in / 23 (23) cm Circumference: 6.25 (9.25) in / 16 (23.5) cm

Yarn quantities are provided as estimates, given the numerous color combinations possibilities. Due to the diverse options, calculating exact usage becomes challenging.
